Documentary Wedding and Elopement Photography in Scotland
Photographing weddings is what I love to do and for the past 20 years I have had the amazing privilege to be a Scotland Wedding and Elopement Photographer offering a more natural style of wedding photography. As well as photographing full-size weddings and micro weddings I also specialise in wilderness adventure elopement photography in the glorious mountains and on the beaches of Scotland. Of course, I also photograph not-so-adventurous elopements and tiny weddings in the cities of Glasgow and Edinburgh if you prefer to keep your feet dry.
My creative wedding photography and natural editing style is perfect for couples who want beautiful artistic photographs of their wedding where the focus is on having a wonderful time together, rather than formality and tradition. I also love to travel and have photographed destination weddings abroad so if you are planning a wedding outside Scotland please let me know!
If you are looking for a Scotland wedding and elopement photographer for your day, be it big or small, on a hillside or a on a city street, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

So what is documentary wedding and elopement photography?
I have always been a documentary style wedding photographer.
But what is documentary wedding photography? Also called photojournalism, or reportage wedding photography, it captures the truest and most natural version of your wedding or elopement. Rather than posing all of the photographs and making the same images repetitively at every wedding I treat every single wedding and elopement as a completely unique event. I arrive at your venue and immediately begin to record the surroundings, the details and the little events that are unfolding. I don’t interfere I just watch and document your wedding day the way it was.
Of course, I know that you will most likely want some family group photographs and some beautiful photographs of yourselves and they will need a certain amount of posing but that’s absolutely fine. Almost every single wedding I have photographed has had some posed photographs and I have no problem making those for you whatsoever. Many of my clients are quite camera-shy and, if that’s you, then you really needn’t worry. Even when I take a few beautiful photographs of you both I work very discreetly and sensitively and prefer to give the bare minimum of direction. It’ll be a lot less painful than you imagine it will be, I promise 🙂
I want to capture the love and emotion at your wedding because that’s what a wedding day should be all about.
DOCUMENTARY WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY IS HONEST, NATURAL AND BEAUTIFUL.
A Little Bit About Me
I started my wedding photography journey a long time ago when I married my wife Fiona, here in Glasgow, back in 1999. Our own wedding photographs were fine, but I knew I could do something that was more natural and less posed. So I quit my job and evolved my life-long photography hobby into Silver Photography and have photographed around 1000 amazing weddings and elopements since!
In the early days I honed my craft by photographing far too many weddings each year in different venues and locations all over Scotland and even abroad. I’ve always preferred documentary wedding photography, mainly because I enjoy it more and find it to be far more more authentic (I’m definitely not a fan of cheesy photographs), but as an outdoorsy person I wasn’t always enjoying only photographing big weddings cooped up inside fancy hotels.
A few years ago I noticed more and more people were asking me to photograph their elopements and I jumped at the chance to work with them and began to photograph more and more each year. Now, alongside photographing a more enjoyable number of bigger weddings each year, I specialise in elopement photography, and photographing tiny weddings too (it isn’t always just 2 people). I love all the elopements I photograph but I am particularly fond of those slightly more adventurous ones which allow me to get out and about in the wondrously beautiful landscapes of Scotland.
A good way to find out more about me might be to read some of the reviews left for me by my clients over the years.
I also still enjoy photographing other stuff. Take a look at my ‘other’ Instagram and my personal website.
Claire and Alex, Arisaig September 2024
We feel so lucky to have come across Trevor to capture our intimate wedding in Arisaig. I fell in love with Trevor’s photo style while looking at his previous work and decided he was the photographer for us! From our very first contact, Trevor couldn’t have been more helpful, from answering questions to giving advice, personal recommendations and even agreeing to be our witness. Fast forward to the day and Trevor exceeded all our expectations. To start with he is such a genuinely lovely man, who we got on incredibly well with which makes a massive difference when it was such a small ceremony. Trevor was so patient with our 1 year old and he made us feel completely at ease, we all had a giggle throughout the day, everything was so natural and it was just how we envisioned our day. We recently had our own photos back and just WOW – they are all incredible, we have had so many compliments about them. Trevor has this amazing talent of just being in the moment and has captured so many pictures that we didn’t even know he was taking. He captured our wedding perfectly and we honestly couldn’t have asked for anyone better! We would recommend Trevor to anyone and everyone!
THANK YOU Trevor for capturing our special day with so many memories we can cherish forever!
